Dr. Nick Gates from OrthoCincy is one of Cincinnati’s best foot and ankle surgeons. He joined ESPN 1530 to talk about the various foot issues confronting Jonathan India, Jake Fraley, and Curt Casali.
Earlier this week, the Reds were feeling optimistic that second baseman Jonathan India was going to return from a plantar fasciitis injury on Friday for their series vs. the Pirates. All India needed was to do some running to make sure his left foot was ready. But the running test went poorly, and with India feeling increasing levels of pain, he has been shut down from all running for at least two more weeks. He underwent a second MRI on Thursday and is getting a second opinion.
The Cincinnati Reds have placed outfielder Jake Fraley on the injured list with a broken toe, the team announced Saturday. Fraley, who missed Friday’s game, has a stress fracture in the fourth toe on his left foot. Fraley also was sidelined during the 2022 season with a toe injury suffered during his rehab while out with a knee issue.
Casali was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday with a left foot contusion. It’s not clear when or how Casali suffered the injury, but he will be out of the lineup for a bit.
