Dr. Bilbo treats a wide range of orthopaedic problems of the shoulder, elbow, arm, knee, leg, ankle and foot. He has extensive experience with sports injuries to those areas. He specializes in treatment of knee injuries especially ACL and meniscus damage and shoulder injuries including dislocation and labral tears in the athlete and non-athlete using advanced techniques in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery. His specialization includes comprehensive care of athletes and whenever possible provides nonsurgical treatment and rehabilitation of injuries. He applies the same “state of the art” approach to the everyday athlete and injury as he does to his highly competitive athletes.
A native of Syracuse, NY Dr. Bilbo was a multi-sport scholar athlete at Christian Brothers Academy. He received his undergraduate AB in Chemistry from Colgate University where he was a varsity wrestler. He then pursued graduate education in Biochemistry and his Doctorate in Medicine in Syracuse at the State University of New York, Upstate Medical University. His post-doctoral education included General Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine Residencies at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. In 1998, 2008, and 2017 Dr. Bilbo completed Board recertification in Orthopaedic Surgery with Sports Medicine Specialization.
Dr. Bilbo has many professional relationships in the community. He is the Head Team Physician and Orthopaedic Surgeon at Northern Kentucky University (NKU) as well as the NCAA Athletics Health Care Administrator. He also serves as the Team Physician for Newport Central Catholic High School. Dr. Bilbo is a member of the NKU Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of his exceptional care of athletes and service to the university. He is the medical director of the Athletic Training and Sports Medicine Program at NKU. Dr. Bilbo was named “Sports Medicine Person of the Year” by the Kentucky Athletic Trainers Society in 2011.
