Matthew T. Hummel, M.D. - Why He Likes Orthopaedics

MATTHEW T. HUMMEL, MD
 Matthew T. Hummel, M.D., is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in joint replacement and adult reconstructive surgery. The work he does "is very satisfying," he says. Dr. Hummel has performed muscle-sparing knee replacements and other joint reconstruction and replacement procedures for Commonwealth Orthopaedic patients since 2008. "It seems like a very focused practice, and that's how it needs to be," he states.
Enthusiastic about technological advances in his field, Dr. Hummel will be one of the first area specialists to offer robotic joint-replacement surgery early next year. His enthusiasm for state-of-the-art orthopaedic care also led him to spearhead The Joint Center through St. Elizabeth Healthcare. "This has been my pride and joy," he says of the award-winning program.
A football player as a student athlete, sports continue to be a part of Dr. Hummel's life, but with four children under the age of six, most of his activities are family and child-oriented. He and his wife are also avid museum-goers and occasionally enjoy a visit to the theater.
