A simple misstep or faulty landing can cause your ankle to roll - and the next thing you know, your ankle looks like a balloon and is painful. Our friends and coaches tell us to just "walk it off."
But a recent review of current literature has found that properly guided rehabilitation by a licensed physical therapist results in less pain and fewer feelings of instability at eight weeks. In addition, patients find greater levels of strength and balance at four months when compared to just doing exercises at home on their own.
The next time you roll your ankle, remember to ask your doctor for a referral to a physical therapist to help you get back to the activities you enjoy!
