Who Is a Candidate for Internal Brace Augmentation?

NICHOLAS T. GATES, MD

High school and college athletes and “weekend warriors” suffering from repetitive ankle sprains and ankle pain are the best candidates, according to Nick Gates, M.D.

However, even those who aren’t playing sports can suffer from repetitive giving out of the ankle and are at times a candidate for the internal brace. Dr. Gates explains that it is important to understand that internal brace augmentation is “not the cure of all ankle pain. This is not a cure for arthritis. This is a cure for loose ligaments that cause pain.” Those with pain caused by other conditions are treated with different methods.
