CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow’s recent return to practice has fans hopeful for an early comeback following his grade three turf toe injury.
Dr. Ayesha Yahya, a foot and ankle surgeon at OrthoCincy, explained that Burrow’s injury involved a complete rupture of the ligaments on the bottom of the toe. “I always thought it’s going to be around the 12-week mark,” Yahya said, noting that Burrow is exceeding expectations with a potential return around Thanksgiving, which would be only 10 weeks.
Yahya highlighted that Burrow’s planting foot is uninjured, which may aid his early return. She emphasized the importance of individualized recovery, stating, “If he’s comfortable, if he’s doing well, if he’s not having any pain doing what he’s doing – he may be ready.”
Burrow received immediate medical attention from orthopedic specialists, which Yahya said can contribute to long-term success.
