Orthopaedic experts on what a high ankle sprain means for Bengals player Chase Brown

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown has been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain, an injury that can sideline players for several weeks.

According to Dr. John Linz, a foot and ankle surgeon at OrthoCincy, “High ankle sprains involve the ligaments that connect the shin bones. These injuries can be more difficult to treat non-surgically, requiring a longer recovery period.”

Unlike typical ankle sprains, which often involve the ligaments around the ankle joint, high ankle sprains affect the area above the joint.

Treatment Options:

    • Non-Surgical: Physical therapy and focused training are often used to allow the injury to heal naturally.
    • Surgical: In some cases, surgery may be necessary. This may involve a small incision and the use of a plate and a “tightrope” suture anchor to stabilize the joint and promote healing.

What’s Next for Brown?

The severity of Brown’s injury and his availability for the upcoming game against the Steelers remain to be determined.
