Dr. Matthew S. Grunkemeyer grew up in suburban Cincinnati, but he studied pre-med and Spanish at the University of Kentucky. He completed his medical training at Baylor Medical Center in Houston, Texas, graduating with honors, followed by orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Texas-San Antonio Health Science Center. He joined OrthoCincy in 2006.
Dr. Grunkemeyer specializes in general orthopaedic surgery and treats both pediatric and adult patients. He tackles everything from fracture care and joint replacement surgery to sports medicine surgery. He is trained in MAKOplasty robotic-assisted surgery, and he serves as the Team Physician for Conner High School. He also speaks Spanish fluently.
Dr. Grunkemeyer welcomes the opportunity to work with and advise medical students. His mission to help others goes beyond the office, however. A father of four young children, he coaches youth soccer and basketball and is an active member of his faith community. In 2015 he and his wife, Araceli (Sally), a dentist, served in health care clinics in El Salvador. In 2016, his entire family served a medical mission in Africa, and Dr. Grunkemeyer then assisted with medical care following the earthquake in Ecuador. In recognition of Dr. Grunkemeyer's service, he was named a Finalist for the Cincinnati Business Courier's 2017 Health Care Heroes "Community Outreach" award.
Dr. Grunkemeyer sees patients in the Edgewood and Florence offices.
