CINCINNATI (WKRC) – The recent snowy weather has resulted in numerous injuries and broken bones, with wrist injuries from falls being a primary concern, according to the team at OrthoCincy.

Steps are especially hazardous this time of year. “When I fell I started going backwards, tried to put my hand down to stop me and didn’t see the other steps and bent it all the way back to my arm,” said patient Tim Snider.

Dr. Jonathan Slaughter, a wrist surgeon at OrthoCincy, explained the severity of Snider’s injury: “So this is his right wrist… you can see cast material around this. The broken bones have now shifted.” Dr. Slaughter plans to operate on Snider’s wrist this week, stating, “Most of these wrist fractures are fixed from the front, we can get in, get it perfect, put some plates and screws, which then allows them to start moving it sooner – and let it heal.”

To prevent falls, Dr. Slaughter advised, “If it looks like wet, it’s ice.” Immediate medical attention can aid recovery, and orthopaedic urgent care can save time and reduce emergency room costs.
